It's no secret anymore that Google has some serious competition. Sure, no one says "Bing it" the way they say "Google it", but popular slang isn't the only measurement of search engine success.

Make Billing Painless in 2013 with FreshBooks

In the handful of years Bing has been in the mix, they've only gone one direction: up. With the power of Microsoft behind the technology and marketing prowess, that's not likely to let up any time soon.

Are all search engines created equal? Not a chance. As it's shaping up, Google and Bing both have definite strengths and weaknesses. That's good news for merchants who want to differentiate themselves, but it does add SEO complexity, as tactics are definitely not "one-size-fits-all."

Bing and Google: Similarities and Differences
Bing and Google certainly have more in common than not, but the differences are what make them interesting. Likewise, it's these standout traits that business owners need to take note of, because they help determine which search engine should be at the forefront of all SEO strategies. While it's not advisable to leave either one out of your efforts, it's important to choose which site the bulk of your time and dollars should be focused on. For the first time ever this year, that may very well be Bing.

Google has one thorough, dynamic, and tricky as can be algorithm. They excel at squashing spammers (they're not perfect, but they do an great job of sweeping out the cheaters), keeping content results clean and consistent, and showcasing a simple, intuitive user-interface.

Bing, on the other hand, has become the social darling, as it is the only search engine that has successfully integrated Facebook into its rankings. This is pretty revolutionary because your Facebook friends' likes and dislikes are integrated into the search results. Google does the same with Google+, but let's face it, there's little contest regarding which is more powerful.

NSA Breaches Privacy Laws Thousands of Times Each Year, Document Reveals

Google Adding Free Encryption to Cloud Storage Service

By SPN Staff Writers (c) 2013

Google is beefing up security for its Cloud Storage as a free service to its users Any new files added to Google's cloud storage service will now be automatically encrypted before being written to disk. "There is no setup or configuration required, no need to modify the way you access the service and no visible performance impact," Google Cloud Storage product manager Dave Barth said in a blog post. "The data is automatically and transparently decrypted when read by an authorized user. If you require encryption for your data, this functionality frees you from the hassle and risk of managing your encryption and decryption keys." Dell Revenue Slips 72 Percent After Company Cuts PC Prices

By Jennifer Cowan (c) 2013

PC maker Dell reported a 72 percent decline in gains for its second quarter late Thursday afternoon after slashing prices on PCs and server systems to breathe some new life into sales and, hopefully, pick up some new customers. Although Dell surpassed Wall Street's modest estimates of $14.18 billion in revenue - the company posted revenue of $14.5 billion and a net income of $204 million - the company could well continue to experience a dwindling bank balance if it does not begin to present popular products and services such as Smartphones, tablets and cloud storage. With the company focused on the takeover war that has erupted between the company founder Michael Dell and activist investor Carl Icahn, it is unlikely…

App Monopoly Lawsuit Against Apple Dropped on Technicality

By SPN Staff Writers (c) 2013

A lawsuit accusing Apple of having a monopoly over iPhone apps via The App Store, has been dismissed on a technicality. U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled the plaintiffs have no grounds to sue Apple because they have not purchased any of the apps mentioned in the lawsuit, Bloomberg is reporting. The plaintiffs were unable to prove "collective allegations that they have been deprived of lower cost alternatives, paid higher prices for Apple-approved applications, or had their iPhones disabled or destroyed," Gonzalez wrote in her decision. "At a minimum, plaintiffs must allege facts showing that each named plaintiff has personally suffered an injury-in-fact based on Apple's alleged conduct." The plaintiffs'…
