[Free Guide] How often does Google want you to post fresh content?

One of the toughest parts about running a link building service is that we don't have direct control over the amount of quality content on our clients' websites.

You would not believe the sites that some people try to rank.

They'll write in with an SEO question, so we take a look at the website… and it's a 3-page mini-site that they're trying to rank for an ultra competitive keyword!

...just not gonna happen. Not since Panda, anyway.

Which brings us to the topic of the day:

How often should you publish fresh content to your website?

Obviously, the more content the better, for a lot of reasons:

  • Your customers have more reasons to subscribe to your website
  • It increases overall time on site
  • It increases the amount of Internal Pagerank in your website
  • Google rewards domains that frequently publish content
  • You have more opportunities to incorporate long-tail keywords
  • Customers see that you're an active business, so they trust you more

...and although those are all obvious benefits, let's just focus on SEO for a second.

Have you heard about Google's "Freshness Bias?"

There's actually a noticeable improvement in rankings when a site starts publishing content on a daily basis.

I first noticed the difference a few years ago, and I have to give credit to one of my SEO role models, Jerry West, for bringing it to my attention.

"You should be adding at least one new page per day on a highly relevant topic to your site." - Jerry West, Google Best Practices Guide.

Jerry is genius.

He actually manages gigantic private networks of thousands of diverse websites. By tracking their ranking changes, he's able to closely analyze what's currently working in Google. I highly recommend his Best Practices Guide (not an affiliate link).

Moz.com has also gone into great detail on the importance of fresh content in SEO. Check out two of their more thorough discussions here and here.

The truth is, if you're not constantly adding content to your website(s), be prepared for an uphill battle when it comes to SEO.

(By the way, we're not just talking about money sites here. It also really helps with parasites like web 2.0 properties. They rank much more effectively with regular content updates.)

Now you may be thinking something like "Wow, that sounds like a ton of work. There's no way I could come up with that much content" or "I don't have the budget" or any number of other things...

But the truth is, it's wayyy easier to order quality content now than it ever was before. It doesn't have to be expensive, either.

At our new website TestedContent.com, we offer a Gold Plan for only $297/mo that comes with 30 (Yes 30!) custom-written articles per month. If you're serious about getting results online, it's the best money you can spend.

Just make sure to choose your topics wisely.

...and that's why tomorrow, I'll be sending you a Content Strategy Guide so comprehensive that you'll never, ever feel like you have "nothing to write about" again. :)

Tomorrow I'll explain exactly how to strike a balance between publishing keyword-related content, news-related content and more.

Stay fresh!

Bobby

P.S. If you haven't claimed your first 3 articles for $7 yet, what are you waiting for? It used to be 4 articles for $1, and even this price won't last forever. So do it already!
