Content marketing is something that a lot of people seem to struggle with but I'm here to tell you today that it doesn't have to be difficult or challenging, even when you haven't done it before.

There are a series of steps that you can follow that will give you a huge head start, even over those that have been doing this for longer than you.

Make Billing Painless in 2013 with FreshBooks

Before I dive right into this guide and go through all of the ways that you can make this easy, I need to tell you about the mistakes that you need to avoid:

The first mistake that people make is thinking that by creating a piece of content that it automatically deserves to get loads of links, social shares and traffic - in some cases this may be true, but great content marketing starts with the content. If you read your favorite blog and find a piece of content that sucks, are you going to want to help promote it? No.

So start off on the right foot and make your content as engaging and as awesome as possible - if this sounds a bit too vague for you, take a look at your competitors and what they're doing - then go beyond it.

The second mistake that people make is not devoting enough time to promoting their content, but when you spend 5 hours creating an awesome piece of content, spending 5 minutes promoting it or just clicking publish isn't enough.

#1 - Create a Checklist
Before you dive into promoting your content you need to know exactly how you're going to promote it. To ensure that you are as productive as possible you need to distil this down into a streamlined process that you can use for every post.

How Fair Use Laws Affect Your Marketing Efforts

By Tina Courtney-Brown (c) 2013

Fair use is a law that is egregiously abused, daily, by much of the internet. By definition, Fair Use outlines when it's acceptable to use excerpts of copyrighted material. These special case scenarios include research, teaching, criticism, and news reporting. It's that last one that throws the web for a loop - sites like Buzzfeed have manifested an extremely loose view of "news", and as such, the internet is having a hay day with other people's content. Many companies are abusing fair use by incorporating copyrighted material into their content marketing efforts, often without a single thought that they might be abusing the system. Photos, music, and video snippets…

Four Ways to Make Your Site More Convenient for Users

By Abigail Clark (c) 2013

With so much competition from other firms and websites, companies must ensure their sites are user-friendly and easy to navigate. Once you decide to redesign your website, be sure you keep these four tips in mind: Tip 1: Keep Your Site Streamlined You may assume the majority of people coming to your site have satellite Internet that allows them to download content at lightning-fast speeds. As recently as 2010, however, six percent of U.S. Internet users relied on dial-up connections. The number of people with low-bandwidth and spotty Internet access gets even larger when you consider the global population. This makes it critical that you design your site to be…

Four Ways to Find Profitable Keywords for Successful Niche Creation

By Onibalusi Segun (c) 2013

For anyone who is into niche creation, keywords are the vital component that holds the business together. Today, I'll be detailing four ways you can find the right keywords to use in setting up a profitable niche site. 1.) Using Google Suggestion Tool Google's suggestion tool and related search results can easily be used to choose great keywords. For example, typing "Pablo diet" into the search will immediately activate Google's Suggestion tool to reveal key phrases which Google users themselves typed into Google when performing a search. Also, as an added advantage, scrolling to the end of the search results will reveal more key phrases the search engine…

Security Researcher Paid $100,000 for Finding Major Windows 8.1 Flaw

By Jennifer Cowan (c) 2013

British security researcher James Forshaw is $100,000 richer after reporting a major flaw in Windows 8.1 to Microsoft, just one week ahead of the operating system's official launch. Forshaw found an issue in the preview version of Windows 8.1 that would have left users vulnerable to hackers. He was able to find the bug after studying the operating system for a little less than a month. Katie Moussouris, Microsoft senior security strategist, told The Guardian Forshaw's discovery was especially beneficial because it revealed a new type of attack and its deviations. The information was worth $100,000 because it gave Microsoft the ability to defend against…

Lenovo Still Top Dog in Shrinking PC Market

By SPN Staff Writers (c) 2013

Lenovo remains the top PC maker on the market, despite plummeting sales in China - its biggest revenue source, research firm Gartner has revealed in its latest report. Lenovo's overall shipments increased 2.8 percent over the previous year thanks to the U.S. and European markets, giving the company a 17.6 percent share globally. PC sales are on the decline across the board, however, dropping 8.6 percent worldwide in the third quarter as consumers gravitate toward tablets - which is good news for Apple and Google, but hurts companies like Microsoft and Lenovo whose bread and butter is the traditional computer. Globally, PC shipments rang in at 80.3 million in the past three months - the lowest numbers…

Facebook Posts Differ By Age, Gender

By SPN Staff Writers (c) 2013

A Facebook post reveals a lot more than you might think. Researchers at the Positive Psychology Center of the University of Pennsylvania and the Psychometrics Centre at the University of Cambridge, without seeing any identifying traits, can often guess a person's age range and gender strictly by their posts. The researchers, in a study of 15.4 million Facebook messages from 75,000 volunteers found some common identifiers of both age and gender in many posts. For instance, females tend to use more "emotions" words (excited, for example) as well as first-person singulars and more psychological and social processes while males tend to swear more and use object references (such as Xbox). Men are also disposed to using the word 'my' before the words wife or girlfriend. When it comes to age, school and homework are most often…
